Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

Due to its suitability for the treatment of several classes of complex problems and its interdisciplinary aspect, artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied to the most diverse knowledge areas. From entertainment to strategic decision support, from biomedical sciences to engineering, AI has given important contributions.

Many problems of nuclear engineering and correlate areas have been efficiently solved by AI, increasing the motivation for research and development in this area. Pursuing this trend, a number of researchers at IEN, working separately, have initiated studies in AI and, as a consequence, several AI applications can be found nowadays in the Institute.

The Applied Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (AAIL) of IEN has the main purpose of unifying and organizing the efforts, within the Institute and collaborating institutions, dedicated to applying artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to nuclear engineering problems and correlate areas. The creation of the AAIL will give greater visibility to the area and to IEN’s AI group, strengthening the researchers’ work in the eyes of the national and international scientific communities, and also widening the possibilities of obtaining financial support, offering services and making partnerships.

AAIL gathers researchers from several sectors of IEN, besides external collaborators, and has a varied research range in applied AI.
