The use of nuclear techniques in
medicine is expanding worldwide. A new generation of particle accelerator
produced short-life radioisotopes allows more precise diagnoses
and more efficient therapies with much lower patient radiation dose,
and lower environmental contamination levels. At present, the Nuclear
Engineering Institute produces two types of radioisotopes: ultra-pure
iodine-123 and fluorine-18, used as markers in several radiopharmaceuticals,
three of which IEN offers:
